  • Participants who complete the Certified Remote Work Professional course may be eligible for a skill scholarship to obtain additional training to help prepare for remote or freelance work. Please review all of the following information carefully before completing the application.

    Prerequisites:

There are two prerequisites to apply for a skill scholarship:

    1.  All modules from the Master Remote Worker Professional Certificate course must be completed before applying with an overall average of 80 percent or higher, including all required workshops before an award may be granted.

    2.  You must demonstrate through the application process that:

    a.  Awards will be used for training directly related to the outcomes of the ROI project (remote work, freelancing, entrepreneurship, or online commerce).

    b.  There is a financial or educational need for the assistance.

    Deadlines & Award Limits:

Fully-completed scholarship applications must be completed at least three weeks prior to the commencement of the desired training. Available scholarship funds are finite and will be limited to 50 - 60 percent of the tuition costs for the desired course or online license. All training must be completed within a 12-month period, and scholarships are not available for later years.

    Training Providers:

You may opt to apply for scholarships to help with tuition costs at any of the following educational sites. You may also be able to find free or reduced costs training at the Division of Workforce Services (DWS) or a Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

        Non-Credit Courses

Utah State University Eastern (primarily online courses)

        Applied Technical College System

        Credit Courses

Utah State University or USU Eastern

Any other USHE or accredited institution in Utah

National Online Providers (available through an annual license)

        Flexjobs

    Covered Expenses & Payment Process:

The scholarship awards are strictly limited to tuition costs and may not be used for college application fees, testing fees, or the purchase of software, hardware, supplies, or course materials.

Scholarships amounts are limited and will be awarded in the following manner, depending on the institution that will be providing the training:

Utah State University or USU Eastern

Awarded amounts will be credited to your student account.

Technical Colleges or another USHE / accredited institution

You will sign up for the desired course and provide documentation of the course registration and costs. Awarded amounts will be paid directly to the higher education institution.

        National providers (Skillshare or FlexJobs)

The ROI program will purchase training licenses directly from the provider.

These services cost from $120 to $129 for an annual license. If an award is granted, you would be required to pay approximately 50% of the annual license (approximately $50) to USU, and a USU representative will send you license information.

    What to Do Next:

    1.  Locate the desired training and determine costs. Remember, you are ultimately responsible for all training costs.

    2.  If needed, apply to the school of your choice and register for the desired course. Note: You do not have to apply in advance if you are seeking an online license with a national provider.

    3.  Use the link below to complete an online application. Be sure to include any required documentation of course registration and costs when completing the application.
